St. Anton an der Jeßnitz (also Sankt Anton an der Jeßnitz ) is an Austrian municipality in the Scheibbs district in Lower Austria with 1179 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
St. Anton is located on the Jessnitz River in the Lower Austrian Mostviertel . The area of the municipality covers 69.64 square kilometers. 70.98 percent of the area is forested.
From the Hochbärneck skiing and hiking area you have a wonderful view of the Ötscher .

history
In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .
The factory owner Andreas Töpper set up the "Bruderlade" in 1868 as a supply house for workers in need at his plant. A historical museum has been located on the ground floor since 1998.
Population development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1,287 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1,273 inhabitants, in 1981 1,287 and in 1971 1,299 inhabitants.

In 2001 there were 25 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry operations according to the 1999 survey 142. The number of people in work at home was 590 according to the 2001 census. The 2001 activity rate was 46.3 percent.
Movies
- Anita Lackenberger : The children of St. Anton. 90-minute film about musical life in St. Anton. Produced in 2007, the film shows a sensitive and unconventional portrait of music schools in rural Lower Austria. It was released in April 2009.
