history

The settlement can be traced back to the Neolithic .

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

The history of the municipality is very closely linked to the history of the municipality of Wieselburg. This is not only expressed in the common name, which is documented as Zuisula Castle as early as 976 AD and refers to the castle in the Zwiesel of the two Erlauf rivers, but also in the existence of the common parish church since 993 AD.

The Wieselburg-Land community was formed in 1967 through the merger of the five neighboring communities of the city of Wieselburg, namely Gumprechtsfelden, Marbach, Mühling, Wechling and Weinzierl. The first historical mention can be found after 1100 with strebilici for Ströblitz.

  • Weinzierl is the main town of the municipality and was mentioned in a document as Uinzurilun as early as 1021 . At the time of the Peasant Wars, Weinzierl played an important role as a gathering place. The time of the Barons von Fürnberg as Lords von Weinzierl, who ran economic ventures and founded the poor house foundation, is particularly noteworthy. The work of Joseph Haydn and Johann Georg Albrechtsberger also falls under their patronage . Since 1934, Weinzierl Castle has housed the oldest agricultural educational institution in present-day Austria. Weinzierl has been the seat of the municipal administration since March 17, 1985.
  • The second largest place in the municipality is Mühling, located on the old iron road. It was probably first mentioned in the personal name of Chunrat von Mulingen in 1317. The camp cemetery in Schauboden is reminiscent of the extensive prisoner-of-war camps in Wieselburg , Purgstall , Petzenkirchen and Mühling (World War I). The artist Egon Schiele did his soldier service in the Mühling guard team . The powder mill in Haag was built around 1600 and was one of the oldest industrial companies in the empire.
  • The original community of Gumprechtsfelden itself only came into being in 1913 when the Rottenhaus community was dissolved. The name Gumprechtsveld is mentioned as early as 1112. Finds in the Schloßkogel already show a settlement in the Neolithic Age.
  • The historical evidence of the original municipality of Marbach as a cadastral municipality with the main town of Marbach and the towns of Bodensdorf and Brunning date from 1260 and 1334.
  • The original municipality of Wechling was created in 1866 by amalgamating with the municipality of Schadendorf.

During the Second World War , 187 men from the cadastral communities of Wieselburg-Land died in the war.
