Wolfpassing is a municipality with 1643 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Scheibbs district in Lower Austria .

geography

Wolfpassing is a lane group village in the valley of the Kleine Erlauf and belongs to the Mostviertel in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 20.31 square kilometers. 16.68 percent of the area is forested.

history

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

Wolfpassing was founded in the 10th or 11th century and was owned by the rulers of the same name.

In 1848 came the dissolution of the manorial system , the community was Wolfpassing.

During the Second World War , 63 men from the cadastral communities of Wolfpassing died in the war.

In 1970 the municipalities of Buch, Etzerstetten and Zarnsdorf were incorporated.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1301 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1321 inhabitants, in 1981 1268 and in 1971 1208 inhabitants.

  • Wolfpassing Castle : The castle is a baroque four-storey four-wing complex with an arcade courtyard , corner towers and a hipped roof and was built around 1690 from a previous building. In 2013, the so-called “Führer Bell” in the castle's bell tower caused a stir.

There were 30 non-agricultural workplaces in 2001, agricultural and forestry businesses according to the 1999 survey 111. The number of people in work at the place of residence was 634 according to the 2001 census. In 2001 the activity rate was 49.73 percent.

In 2010, the Ecoplus Business Park Wolfpassing was founded in close cooperation with the local authority association of the IKB (intermunicipal operating area Kleines Erlauftal, a cooperation between the six municipalities Wolfpassing, Steinakirchen, Gresten, Gresten-Land, Reinsberg, Wang) and the Raiffeisenbank Region Eisenwurzen.
