Josef Leichtfried

Josef Leichtfried (born January 11, 1926 in Wolfpassing ; died October 18, 2018 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1967 to 1969 he was a member of the Federal Council and from 1969 to 1980 a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament .

education and profession

Leichtfried attended the elementary and secondary school in Steinakirchen am Forst from 1932 to 1940 and then switched to the commercial vocational school in Pöchlarn from 1941 to 1942, completing an apprenticeship with the Scheibbs district administration between 1941 and 1943 . After attending administration school in Amstetten between 1942 and 1943, he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service and subsequently served in the military for two years.

After his return from the Second World War, Leichtfried worked between 1945 and 1947 as a community clerk in the police and administration and in 1947 became an office clerk at the Vienna Chamber of Labor . In 1949 he switched to the Lower Austria Chamber of Labor as an office worker and at the same time attended the trade union school between 1948 and 1949. After that, Leichtfried rose to head of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labor in 1949, a position he held until 1987. He was also the Federal Government Commissioner for the Waldviertel from 1982 to 1990.

politics

Leichtfried began his political career in 1955 as a member of the municipal council of Groß-Siegharts . In 1960 Leichtfried was elected to the city council in Waidhofen an der Thaya . He also acted as Vice Mayor from 1965 to 1975 and held his office as City Councilor until 1985. Between June 15, 1967 and October 19, 1969, he represented the SPÖ Lower Austria in the Federal Council, after which he moved to the Lower Austrian state parliament on November 20, 1969. From 1979 to 1980 he also held the office of chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club. Within the party, Leichtfried was involved as district party chairman of the SPÖ Waidhofen an der Thaya between 1963 and 1988, and from 1979 to 1982 he was a member of the SPÖ federal party executive, from 1956 district chairman of the Pensioners' Association (PVÖ) of Waidhofen an der Thaya and from 1958 a member of the federal executive committee and of the presidium of the PVÖ and from 1982 chairman of the control commission of the PVÖ. Leichtfried left the state parliament on October 3, 1980.
