Puchenstuben is a municipality with 289 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Scheibbs district in Lower Austria .

geography

Puchenstuben is located in the Mostviertel in Eisenwurzen in Lower Austria . The area of ​​the municipality covers 41.26 square kilometers. 84.2 percent of the area is forested.

In ancient times, the area was part of the Noricum province .

Gösing, which belongs to the municipality of Puchenstuben, was first mentioned in 1261. Christian Haller, landlord in Puchenstuben, was one of the leaders in the peasant uprising against the noble rulers at the end of the 16th century. As early as the 17th century, there was intensive mining activity in the municipality.

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 303 inhabitants. In 1991 the community had 366 inhabitants, in 1981 418 and in 1971 505 inhabitants.

In 2015 the municipality had 317 inhabitants, of which 53 or 16.7% were asylum seekers. This made Puchenstuben the municipality in Austria that accepted the most asylum seekers in relation to the number of inhabitants.
