The Purgstall POW camp in Purgstall an der Erlauf was a POW camp of the Danube Monarchy during the First World War .

The camp in Purgstall was built in April 1915 on an area of ​​50 hectares for 24,500 men. From May 26, 1915, Major General Viktor Moga v. Broczko commander of the camp.

From 1921 onwards, some two-storey residential buildings were built on the foundations of the camp using the building material from the demolished camp barracks. This resulted in the summer resort "Schauboden-Föhrenhain". Its users came mainly from the Viennese civil service, who developed their own social culture in this settlement (e.g. at croquet championships). The future Federal President Wilhelm Miklas was one of the visitors to the settlement .
