Edlbach is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Kirchdorf an der Krems district in the Traunviertel with 647 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

geography

Edlbach lies at an altitude of 770 m in the Traunviertel. The extension is 4 km from north to south and 3.4 km from west to east. The total area is 8.3 km². 24.1% of the area is forested and 65.1% of the area is used for agriculture.

The municipality includes the following two localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

  • Edlbach (527)
  • Mitterweng (120)

The community consists of the cadastral community Edlbach.

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Edlbach belonged to the Windischgarsten judicial district until 2012 and has been part of the Kirchdorf an der Krems judicial district since January 1, 2013 .

Population development

In 1991 the community had 686 inhabitants. By 2001 the population decreased slightly to 680, then more sharply to 646 by 2011. Since then the population has increased again and reached 670 inhabitants in 2018. On the one hand, Edlbach has a negative migration balance , but a positive birth balance .

Culture and sights

Sports

A bathing lake and an 18-hole golf course have existed in the community since June 2006. In winter there is also a natural toboggan run with floodlights.

The municipal council has a total of 13 members. With the municipal council and mayoral elections in Upper Austria in 2015 , the municipal council has the following distribution: 9 ÖVP, 3 SPÖ and 1 FPÖ.
