Jörg Udo Lensing (* 1960 in Düsseldorf ) is a German composer, theater director and professor for sound design.

Life

Jörg Udo Lensing studied composition at the Folkwang University in Essen from 1981 to 1987 with Wolfgang Hufschmidt and Dirk Reith . Even before his exams in 1987, he received the university award of this institution in 1986. After graduating in 1987, Jörg U. Lensing began a postgraduate course in “new music theater” as a master class student with Mauricio Kagel at the Cologne University of Music . At the same time, the Theater der Klänge in Düsseldorf was founded, which was initially dedicated to the “mechanical Bauhaus stage ” based on designs by Oskar Schlemmer students Kurt Schmidt and Georg Teltscher, as well as the Bauhaus teacher László Moholy-Nagy .

The Theater der Klänge is an intermedial music theater and dance ensemble, which in some cases works intensively with (musical) language and is increasingly dedicated to contemporary dance . The primacy of the parallel development of stage music to be played live by associated composers always applies.

In addition to computer and video projections, there has been continuous development since 1993 of an electronically interactive dance stage, on which the dancers themselves actively influenced the sound and video design using motion sensors. (Figure and Sound in Space 1993, Module | a | t | o | r 2002, PCI 2004, HOEReographien 2005, Suite intermediale 2009/10, Das Lackballett 2019).

To this day, JULensing is responsible for the authorship and staging of almost all of the Theater der Klänge's projects, mostly with Thomas Neuhaus (composition) and Jacqueline Fischer (choreography) at his side.

Since 1988 JULensing has also been responsible for the composition of film music and sound design for numerous films, especially by the director Lutz Dammbeck .

In 1992 JULensing became guest lecturer at the “1. international stage class ”at the Bauhaus Dessau . Since 1996 he has been professor for "Sound Design " at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences . In addition to film sound design, core areas of his teaching are also applied sound design, such as B. audio branding , soundscape design, immersive audio or radio play and acoustic art. As part of his teaching, he works closely with companies and institutes such as museums and planetariums, as well as experts from various industries.
