Michel Chion

Michel Chion (born January 16, 1947 in Creil in the Oise department ) is a French author and composer of electronic music and musique concrète .

life and work

After studying literature and music, Michel Chion began working for the French broadcaster Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française in 1970 . He was assistant to Pierre Schaeffer at the Paris Conservatory and from 1971 to 1976 a member of the Groupe de recherches musicales . He got to know the video artist Robert Cahen , with whom he has enjoyed years of friendship and musical collaboration. Chion is a professor at the University of Paris III .

In addition to his compositions, Michel Chion has written numerous texts on sound, music and language in film, including Pierre Henry , François Bayle , Charlie Chaplin , Jacques Tati , David Lynch , Stanley Kubrick and Andrei Tarkowski . He wrote 16 books and published in Cahiers du cinéma .
