Oberschlierbach is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Kirchdorf an der Krems district in the Traunviertel with 492 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

The responsible judicial district is Kirchdorf an der Krems .

geography

Oberschlierbach is located in the Traunviertel in the Upper Austrian Alps , at the crest of the eastern Almtaler and Kirchdorferfeld Flyschberge between Kremstal and Steyrtal at around 600- 800  m above sea level. A. Height.

It extends six kilometers from north to south and 5.3 km from west to east. The total area is 18.22 km². 58.5% of the area is forested, 36.1% of the area is used for agriculture.

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Since 1490 it has been part of the principality, then crown land Austria ob der Enns .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

The area belonged to the parish of Kirchdorf from time immemorial , and in 1784 it became part of the new Schlierbach parish . The name as such does not appear until 1812 in the Franciscan land registry for the tax community . When the local communities were created after 1848/49 , the tax communities of Unterschlierbach and Mitterschlierbach became the community of Schlierbach, Oberschlierbach became its own political community, and the adjacent parts of Hausmanning were added.

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . In 1945 Upper Austria was restored.

As of September 1, 2012, the postcode 4554 Oberschlierbach was assigned, making the old postcodes 4553 ( Schlierbach ), 4560 ( Kirchdorf / Krems ) and 4592 ( Leonstein ) obsolete. Street names were also given at the same time.

The population has been almost constant since the 1990s: According to the census in 1991, the municipality had 454 inhabitants, then 463 in 2001 and 467 in 2010. It has a good 200 households.

Explanation of the coat of arms: The round kiln refers to the earlier great economic importance of charcoal burning , the rainbow to the altitude of the community on a watershed and the associated frequency of this atmospheric-optical phenomenon. The arch also stands for the rich natural landscape of the municipality.

The design comes from Herbert Erich Baumert . The municipal coat of arms and colors were adopted by the municipal council on March 7, 1990 and approved by the state government on May 7, 1990.
