Martin Heintel

Martin Heintel (born December 8, 1967 in Vienna ) is an Austrian geographer . He is an associate professor at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna .

Live and act

Heintel studied geography at the University of Vienna and then worked as an assistant at the Institute for Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna. He received his doctorate in 1996 and his habilitation in 2004. From 2006 to 2007, Heintel was Marshall Plan Chair (Professor of Economics and Regional Economic Development) at the University of New Orleans .

He was visiting professor at Vechta University (1999), Hanover University (2001), Ludwig Maximilians University Munich (2003), Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca in Romania (2004) and Humboldt University zu Berlin (2005), the University of Salzburg (2006), the German University of Technology in Oman (2009) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2019).

Heintel is the spokesman for the Austrian Association for Applied Geography (ÖVAG). Heintel's research focuses on urban and regional research on different levels. The focus is on questions of spatial research and planning, regional development, policy, management, planning and consulting, urban research (megacities, district development) and border studies under the aspect of governance. The spatial focus relates primarily to European spatial development (European Union, Austria and Eastern Europe) and SE Asia (especially Indonesia).

In addition to the University of Vienna, Heintel has lectured at other universities in Germany and abroad (including: RWTH Aachen University , Vienna University of Technology , Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt and Danube University Krems ). As part of the postgraduate training, Heintel is part of the scientific management team for the “Cooperative Urban and Regional Development” training program at the Postgraduate Center of the University of Vienna.
