region

Since June 27, 2011, the municipality of Kammern has been part of the Liesingtal region , which was founded on that day together with the municipalities of Kalwang , Mautern in Styria and Wald am Schoberpass .

Waters

The main river in the municipality is the Liesing . Numerous small brooks flow into the Liesing, some of them only carry water after heavy rainfalls, others in turn are no longer noticeable in nature, but are still in the water directory of the State of Styria.

From the south flow to the Liesing:

  • Obersbach
  • Fadelbach with the Klockgrabenbach and the Hüttengrabenbach
  • Leimsbach with the Modlhansbach and the Hennerbach
  • Kammersbach
  • Steineckbach with the Klammbach
  • Mötschendorf-Brunngrabenbach

Tributaries of the Liesing from the north:

  • Schlossgrabenbach
  • Schwarzenbach
  • Seizerbach with the Dirnsdorferbach , the Damischbach and the Ploderbach, which in turn has already included the Kaisertalbach and the Bechelbach
  • Sparsbach
  • Wolfskreuzgrabenbach
  • Feitscherhofbach

The eastern Tannkogelbach and the Trabocherseegraben flow directly into the Trabochersee , parts of the bank of which belong to the municipality of Kammern. The Mochlerbach flows through the village of Gai to the Veitscherbach , which then flows into the Trabochersee.

history

The earliest written document is from around 1130 and reads "Camera". The name goes back to Old High German kamara and means 'small stone house' (possibly as the administrative seat).

The castle ruins of Kammerstein (lower chambers) and Ehrenfels (upper chambers), which were owned by aristocrats with far-reaching connections (up to the son-in-law of Emperor Maximilian I , Siegmund von Dietrichstein ), prove that the rule of chambers in the Middle Ages was partly of supraregional importance would have.

On the Reiterer Kogel - proven by soil examinations - there was probably a fortification, the original castle of the Massenbergs (?). The site name Massenberg (Maser) south of Glarsdorf also indicates this gender.

The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community was part of the Reichsgau Styria, from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. In 2010 the survey on the market town was carried out.
