Julie Marie Leach (* 23. February 1957 in Pasadena , California as Julie Marie Jones ) is a former American canoeist , triathlete and Olympian (1976).

Career

Julie Leach was initially active in canoe racing since 1971 and started in 1974 at the Junior World Championships in Poland.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , she finished seventh in a single kayak over 500 meters.

After the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow were boycotted by the United States, she looked for a new challenge. In the late 1970s, she ran the marathon in 3:02 hours, placing it among the 20 fastest women in the nation.

She has been married to canoeist Bill Leach (* 1946) since 1975 , who started in a two-person kayak at the 1976 Olympic Games .
Her husband also started at the Ironman in Hawaii in 1981. Julie too soon turned to triathlon and she won this race in October 1982 at her first and only start at the Ironman Hawaii .

In May 1986 she was able to win the Moloka'i race in Hawaii in surf ski , the unofficial world championships in this sport.

In 2001 Julie Leach announced her retirement from professional sports. Today she lives in Turtle Rock with her husband and two children .
