Lyn Lemaire (* 6. July 1951 in Santa Monica as Eleanor Lynette Lemaire ) is a former US cyclist and triathlete .
Career
As a student, Lyn Lemaire started swimming for the US national team.
In 1976 she set a new cycling record over the 25-mile distance (1: 00: 06.7 h). In 1977 and 1978 she became national champion in the individual time trial .
Ironman Hawaii winner 1979
Lyn Lemaire was the first female Ironman Hawaii winner in 1979 and the first woman ever to successfully complete a triathlon over the full Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). After no women had competed in the first edition the year before, she started in January 1979 as the only woman and reached the finish line in fifth.
In 1984, Lemaire founded Ultrasport magazine .
Awards
- In 2003 Lyn Lemaire was inducted into the Ironman Hall of Fame together with Gordon Haller (winner of the first edition of Ironman Hawaii 1978) .
