Steffen Marc Liebetrau (born September 28, 1972 in Frankfurt am Main ; † April 2, 2015 ) was a German triathlete .

Career

In 1996 Steffen Liebetrau took part in his first triathlon, the Breisgau Triathlon in Malterdingen .
After completing his business administration and sports science studies, the strong cyclist started as a professional triathlete in 2002 and soon concentrated on the long distance. In 2003, he finished 22nd as the second-best German at the World Triathlon Championships on the long distance. He was runner-up three times in a row at the Ironman Lanzarote between 2004 and 2006 .

In August 2009, Liebetrau announced the end of his professional career after he had already canceled all races for 2009 due to a blood clot in his heart. Steffen Liebetrau died on April 2, 2015 at the age of 42.
