Frederik Van Lierde (born May 25, 1979 ) is a Belgian triathlete . He is European long distance champion (2007), multiple Ironman winner and won the Ironman Hawaii in 2013 .

Career

Frederik Van Lierde has been running triathlon since 1997.

In 1998 he started for the first time at the Junior European Championships, where he finished 34th and in the following year 1999 16th.

In 2007 he became European champion in the long distance triathlon in Belgium.

In Nice in June 2011 he won his first Ironman race (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and he was able to repeat this success again in 2012 and 2013.

At the Ironman Hawaii in 2012, he reached third place.

Winner Ironman World Championships 2013

In October 2013 he became the second Belgian to win the Ironman Hawaii. Frederik Van Lierde is trained by his compatriot Luc Van Lierde , who won in Hawaii in 1996 and 1999. The two are not related.

In July 2014 Frederik Van Lierde was second behind Sebastian Kienle at Ironman Germany in Frankfurt am Main and at Ironman Hawaii in October he finished eighth.

In March 2015, he took his fifth victory in an Ironman race in South Africa. At the Ironman Germany in July 2015, he was fifth.

In July 2017 Frederik Van Lierde was able to win the Ironman France in Nice for the fourth time. In 2018 he won the EDF Alpe d'Huez triathlon on the long distance in France .
