Tom Warren (* 1951 in San Diego , California ) is a former American triathlete and winner of the second Ironman Hawaii (1979).

Career

After graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in accounting and serving in the military, Warren turned intensely into endurance sports.
In the summer of 1978, John Dunbar , a Navy Seal, told him about the competition in Hawaii, which he had completed the previous year as the second fastest. Warren took up intense training to prepare for the competition. However, he repeatedly emphasized that he had not done any special triathlon training.
Twelve participants - including a single woman with Lyn Lemaire - finished the race successfully. The 28-year-old Warren won the Ironman Hawaii in 11:15:56 hours (48 minutes before runner-up John Dunbar) and set a new course record.

Tom Warren also regularly took part in the "Horny Toad Invitational Triathlon" organized by Murphy Reinschreiber in Torrey Pines between Del Mar and La Jolla over half the Ironman distance, the first triathlon with prize money for the winners.

He was married to the Austrian Barbara Müller (1943-2008) - who started as Barbara Alvarez at Ultraman Hawaii in 1990 and took second place there.
