Timothy "Tim" DeBoom (born November 4, 1970 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa ) is a former American triathlete and two-time winner of the Ironman World Championship (2001, 2002). He is included in the best list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Tim DeBoom started triathlon in 1992 and has been a professional since 1995. In 1998 he finished fourth at the World Triathlon Championship on the long distance - held by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) in Japan .

With the Ironman New Zealand he won his first Ironman race in March 1999. In July 2000, at 8:08:55 h at Ironman Austria, he set his personal best on the Ironman distance and finished second behind the German Jürgen Zäck .

Winner Ironman World Championship 2001

Tim DeBoom achieved a top ten placement seven times at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. He was a two-time Ironman Hawaii winner (2001 and 2002) and he is so far the last American to achieve a gold medal for the United States in Hawaii. (As of May 2017)

In 2011, at the age of 41, he ended his time as a professional triathlete. Tim DeBoom is married to the former triathlete Nicole DeBoom (* 1972). His older brother Tony DeBoom (* 1968) was also an active triathlete.

Awards

  • In August 2019 it was announced that Tim DeBoom would be awarded with the admission into the "Ironman Hall of Fame" .
