The fastest athletes complete the double marathon as the last competition with times under seven hours
Ultraman Hawaii is a three-day long-distance triathlon sporting event that has been held annually in November in Hawaii since 1983 .
organization
An ultraman consists of 10 km swimming, 421 km cycling and 84 km running. The competition is held annually in Kailua-Kona as the Ultraman World Championship, with a maximum of 40 participants who are specially invited. Record winners are the American Shanna Armstrong and the Brazilian Alexandre Ribeiro with six wins each. In addition to the Hawaii competition, there is also the Ultraman in Penticton , Canada .
Kurt Madden holds the course record with 21:41:02 hours from 1983. The first German starters in 1989 were Hannes Blaschke and Ulrich Strunz . The most successful German participants were Hans-Jürgen Schley (first German winner) in 1993, Daniel Schallmo in 1994, Holger Spiegel and Tobias Winnemöller in 1998 (2014), who won.
An Ultraman is held on three days: On the first day there is swimming and the first 145 km of cycling, with no break between these two disciplines, as is usual in triathlon. On the second day, the rest of the bike path is covered. The competition ends with the double marathon on the third day.
The Ultraman World Championships last took place from November 24th to 26th, 2017. There were 39 athletes from 16 countries at the start:
day 1
10 km swimming, 145 km cycling
day 2

Day 3

In 2017, in the more than 30-year history of Ultraman Hawaii, with Steffi Steinberg after Conny Dauben (winner 2002), another German was able to enter the list of winners. She crossed the finish line more than 4 hours ahead of the second-placed woman and finished ninth overall.
