Ben van Zelst (born November 18, 1961 ) is a former Dutch triathlete and Ironman winner (1992, 1993).

Career

In 1988, Ben van Zelst was national champion in the long distance triathlon (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).
In 1991 he became the European long-distance triathlon champion with his second victory at the Almere Triathlon .

In 1992 he was the winner of the first edition of the Ironman on Lanzarote and was able to win the race on the Canary Island the following year.
He was able to qualify several times for a starting place at Ironman Hawaii and achieved his best placement at the world championship with his eighth place in 1991.

In 1994 he declared his active time over.

Ben van Zelst is married to the triathlete Irma Zwartkruis (Vice European Champion 1986, 1988, 1989).
