Joseph (Joe) Gambles (born January 16, 1982 in Great Britain ) is a triathlete who competes for Australia today . He is European triathlon champion on the long distance (2008), Ironman winner (2010) and is included in the best list of Australian triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Joe moved to Launceston , Australia with his parents at the age of three and competed in his first triathlon when he was 13. He started for the UK for a few years and since then has worked for Australia.

European long distance triathlon champion 2008

In 2008, he became the European long-distance triathlon champion in France. In September 2010, he won his first Ironman victory in Wisconsin. On the long-distance triathlon in November 2011 in Nevada, he won the runner-up world title behind the American Jordan Rappden .

In September 2013, he finished third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Nevada . Since the beginning of 2015 he starts for the then newly founded Bahrain Elite Endurance Triathlon Team , which is led by Chris McCormack .

In June 2016 he was able to win the Ironman 70.3 Boulder for the fifth time in the middle distance after 3:41:37 hours with a new course record. He is trained by former triathlete Torbjørn Sindballe . His nickname is Smokin Joe .

Third ITU World Championship Triathlon Long Distance 2017

In August 2017, the then 35-year-old finished third at the world championship on the long distance.
