The Triathlon de Gérardmer is a triathlon sporting event that has been taking place in Gérardmer since 1988 and is one of the largest and most famous triathlon events in France.
The competition is held as a half Ironman, over the Olympic distance, a sprint triathlon and a kids triathlon.
Two races of the International Triathlon Union (ITU: 1994 and 1995) and five competitions of the European Triathlon Union (ETU: 1992, 1993, 2000, 2001 and 2008) have already taken place here. The French long distance championships were also determined in Gérardmer (1998, 1999 and 2006). Ironman France also took place here in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
In 2008 the ETU European Championships on the long distance were held in Gérardmer as part of the Triathlon XL . The next races will be held here on September 5th and 6th, 2015.
The Triathlon XL today covers the middle distance (half Ironman): 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running
Previously, the race was held over the long distance from 2005 to 2007: 4 km swimming, 120 km cycling and 30 km running
From 1988 to 1993 the race was held as the Triathlon International des Hautes Vosges Moyenne Distance over the middle distance (2.5 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 20 km running).
