The Lac de Gérardmer is a cold, clear mountain lake on the western side of the Vosges in the Vosges department . It is the largest natural lake in the Vosges. On the east bank of the lake is the town of Gérardmer , after which the lake is named. Its drainage takes place via a short watercourse called Jamagne into the Vologne , a tributary of the Moselle . There are some rare fish and plant species in the lake, such as the burbot and bream herbs .
North of the lake runs the department road D 417, after Remiremont leads, in the south D extends 69th
Emergence
At the time of the Würm Ice Age (80,000 to 10,000 before today), the three lakes were formed by the glaciation of the Vosges to the west of the main mountain ridge
- Lac de Gérardmer , which was dammed by a terminal moraine
- Lac de Longemer , which fills the former basin of a glacier
- Lac de Retournemer , one incurred by glaciers Karsee
Leisure and Tourism
The lake is used as a bathing lake; From June to September there is supervision at the beaches. The lake also offers good conditions for sailing and windsurfing. Lake tours with excursion boats are offered from April to October. Boat rentals offer pedal boats, row boats, and electric boats for cruising across the lake.
A circular hiking trail of over 6 km leads around the lake. There are several swimming areas, campsites and hotels on the lake. Much of the city's cultural life takes place on the lakeside of Gérardmer: there is a cinema, the city park, the swimming pool and much more.
In midsummer, a festival with fireworks is celebrated on the lake, where many wire sculptures are decorated with flowers. On the French national holiday there is traditionally a fireworks display on the lake shore at 10:30 p.m.
