Jan van der Marel (born January 13, 1968 in Nieuwkoop ) is a former Dutch triathlete .

Career

In the 90s Jan van der Marel was one of the strongest triathletes from the Netherlands.

He is multiple Dutch champion in the long distance triathlon (1993, 1996, 1998, 1999). At the Ironman Hawaii in 1996 Jan van der Marel finished ninth. He is also a two-time national champion in the winter triathlon (1995, 1998) and in the duathlon (1991, 1995).

In 1999 he became European triathlon champion on the long distance at the Almere Triathlon and has since held the course record there with his winning time of 7:57:46 h.
