Säter is a locality ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Dalarnas län and the capital of the municipality of the same name .
Säter was originally a royal estate, which was expanded with a settlement around 1630. In 1642 the place received city rights , which have been meaningless since the administrative reform of 1971. The central parts of Säter are one of the best preserved wooden towns in Sweden. In the 16th and 17th centuries, square coins, the so-called klippingar, were made in Säter .
The local hospital, built in 1912, was originally a psychiatric clinic . Triathlon competitions take place here every year , accompanied by a rich cultural program, for example a samba carnival.
