The Ironman Wisconsin is a triathlon sporting event over the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) that has taken place every September since 2002 in Madison , Wisconsin ( USA ).

organization

At Ironman Wisconsin, the fastest athletes in their age groups can purchase starting places for the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships). For this competition in Hawaii one has to qualify since 1983 in one of the worldwide qualifying competitions.

The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), today a subsidiary of the Chinese Wanda Group , bought the previous organizer of the Ironman Wisconsin North American Sports (NA Sports) in 2009 .

Professional triathletes have had to qualify for the Ironman Hawaii via the Kona Pro Ranking System of the organizer WTC since 2011 . Until 2014, a total of 25,000 US dollars in prize money had been distributed to the fastest professionals.

The Ironman Wisconsin 2015 was held purely as an age group competition - that is, the winners did not receive any prize money and no qualification points were awarded for the Kona Pro ranking. In 2016, points for the KPR system and prize money were only distributed to female professionals and the prize money was increased to US $ 50,000.

The American Linsey Corbin was able to set a new best time for women with her winning time of 9:12:39 h. This race was last held on September 8, 2019

Route

  • The competition starts with the swimming competition over two laps on Lake Monona .
  • The cycle route is about 90 km long and has to be cycled twice. The destination is also the starting area at the lake.
  • The marathon running route runs over two laps.

The current course record was set in September 2018 by the US-American Linsey Corbin with 9:12:39 h and the US-American Luke McKenzie has held the best time in the men with 8:17:19 h since 2017.
