Chris Lieto (born February 7, 1972 in Redbank , New Jersey ) is a retired American triathlete . In 2009 he was runner-up at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) and is included in the best list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

The three-time Ironman winner (2002, 2005 and 2006) is known as a very fast cyclist.

In 2009 he achieved his best result so far (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) with the second place at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii ( Ironman Hawaii ). In September 2011, he finished second at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas .

In December 2012, Chris Lieto sustained an Achilles tendon injury in a race in Thailand and has not competed in any long distance races since.

He lives in California with his wife and son . His nickname is To .

His younger brother Matt Lieto (* 1978) is also active as a triathlete.
