Melanie McQuaid (born May 17, 1973 in Victoria ) is a Canadian duathlete and triathlete . She is multiple world champion in the cross striathlon (2003, 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2017).

Career

Melanie McQuaid was on a mountain bike in the World Cup.

World champion Xterra-Crosstriathlon 2003

Melanie McQuaid was the first female athlete to win the Xterra World Championship three times in cross triathlon (2003, 2005 and 2006). After her, Julie Dibens (2007, 2008, 2009) and Flora Duffy (2014, 2015, 2016) were also able to achieve this. Since 2010 she has also competed in the triathlon middle distance in the Ironman 70.3 race (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running). Her nickname is Racergirl .

In April 2011 she also won the World Triathlon Championship, which was held for the first time by the International Triathlon Union (ITU).

Vice-World Champion Cross-Triathlon 2012

In 2012 she became ITU Vice World Champion Crosstriathlon in the United States: After being in the lead for a long time, she was overtaken by the British Lesley Paterson in the last lap . In 2012 she also started the long distance in an Ironman race for the first time (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

World champion cross triathlon 2017

From 2015 to 2017, Melanie McQuaid hardly appeared internationally. In August 2017, after 2011, she again became the ITU cross-triathlon world champion. In November 2017, she started at the Ironman Arizona , but could not finish the race. In September 2019 she finished second at the Ironman Wisconsin .
