Ned Overend
Ned Overend (born August 20, 1955 in Taipei , Taiwan ) is a former American mountain biker and cross triathlete .
Career
The son of a US diplomat was born in Taiwan and started cycling in the early 1980s. He originally wanted to become a professional road and triathlon.
Today Overend is considered a "living legend" of mountain bike sport. Deadly Nedly was under contract with Specialized and won more cross-country races than any other cyclist in sporting history. These include six national championships of the American NORBA series (1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992) and the first official world championships in Durango (Colorado) in 1990.
In 1991 he came third in Italy at the Mountain Bike World Championships behind his compatriot John Tomac and the Swiss Thomas Frischknecht .
Cross triathlon since 1996
In 1996 he finished third at the World Cross Triathlon Championships.
In 1998 Ned Overend ended his professional cross-country career and put his full concentration on a sport he had already started two years earlier: the Xterra World Championships , a cross triathlon on Maui . The competitors have to swim 1.5 km in the open sea, 32 km cross country on a mountain bike and complete a 12 km cross-country run. After a third and a second place in 1996 and 1997, Ned Overend won the race at the age of 43 in the two subsequent competitions and in 2001 finished fourth.
In 2000 he became national champion in winter triathlon.
Later he stepped on the pedals again in matters of cross country: at the Mountain Bike World Cup in Angel Fire 2005, Old Neverend finished 18th shortly before his 50th birthday, leaving a number of well-known racing drivers behind. In 2015 he became National Fatbike Champion .
