Filip Meirhaeghe (born March 5, 1971 in Ghent ) is a former Belgian mountain biker and road cyclist .
Career
Filip Meirhaeghe became Belgian cross country champion for the first time in 1996 . He was able to repeat this title win in 1998, 2000 and 2001. A year later, he won the mountain bike event in Paris-Roubaix . He was also able to repeat this triumph in 2002. At the Mountain Bike World Championships in 1998 he won his first of two bronze medals, the second followed in 1999 .
At the Olympic Games in Sydney he was able to win the silver medal behind Miguel Martinez . At the next World Championships in 2002 and 2003 , Meirhaeghe became vice world champion in Kaprun and finally world champion in Lugano .
2004 doping ban
Shortly before the 2004 Olympics in Athens , he was positive for EPO tested and gave use to. During his 15-month ban, he wrote the book Positief about his previous career.
Since 2006 Meirhaeghe has contested road races for the Belgian Professional Continental Team Landbouwkrediet-Colnago and won the GP Rudy Dhaenens . On the mountain bike he was again Belgian cross-country champion. He ended his career after the 2009 season.
