Hamish Carter
Hamish Carter , ONZM (born April 28, 1971 in Auckland ) is a former New Zealand triathlete and two-time Olympian (2000, 2004).
Career
Hamish Carter finished his first triathlon in Whangamata in 1991 in the top ten and he started as a professional triathlon in 1993. At the 2000 Summer Olympics, he finished 26th.
Olympic champion triathlon 2004
At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , he won the gold medal in a time of 1: 51: 07.73 h. At the Commonwealth Games in 2002 he won the bronze medal. He was also able to record a total of twelve World Cup victories. Hamish Carter was trained by Brett Sutton .
In September 2006 he became vice world champion on the short distance triathlon for the second time after 1997. In October he was also cross-triathlon world champion (1.5 km swimming, 32 km mountain bike and 12 km cross-country running) in Hawaii as part of the Xterra world series.
On March 6, 2007 he announced the end of his active career after 14 years. He named motivation problems as the reason. He lives with his wife Marisa , also a former triathlete (as Marisa Pentecost ) and their two children in Mt. Eden, Auckland.
Awards
- In 2005 he was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for his sporting success .
- He was nominated for Hall of Fame induction by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) in 2014 .
