Meredith Kessler (* 28. June 1978 as Meredith Brooke Keeran ) is an American triathlete . She is multiple Ironman winner (2010-2016) and state champion in the middle distance (2013, 2014). She is included in the best list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Meredith Keeran grew up in Columbus . She studied at Syracuse University and she started her first long-distance triathlon in 2000.

In August 2010 she won the Ironman Canada (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km running). In her first year as a professional in 2010, she finished the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships) with migraine attacks as the 26th of 40 professional triathletes.

3rd place World Championship Triathlon Long Distance 2011

In November 2011 she was third at the World Triathlon Long Distance Championship in Nevada .

In 2012 she suffered a bicycle accident six weeks before her planned start at Ironman 70.3 in Henderson : While driving downhill, a cyclist in front of her fell and she fell over him. Kessler suffered a fracture of a vertebra .

In May 2013 she became the US national champion in the triathlon middle distance and she was able to successfully repeat this success in 2014. In September she took fourth place on the "half Ironman distance" at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running). In November she achieved her seventh Ironman victory in Arizona, after finishing second here in the two previous years. This was her eleventh start in Arizona and her 52nd race on the Ironman distance.

In March 2015, she won her eighth gold medal in an Ironman race in New Zealand.

At the Ironman Hawaii in 2013, she came seventh in the rush for prize money, but her other starts there did not go according to plan. After she was not in Hawaii in 2011, she started again in Kailua-Kona in 2012 a few months after her bike accident with a fractured vertebra. She was also the second woman to come out of the water, but then, lying on the bike in fourth position, collided with another cyclist because of a gust of wind. With a concussion after the fall, she rode the stage until the second change, but then got out. In 2014, she got out of the water in close contact with Amanda Stevens and Jodie Swallow as third, was even in the lead on the bike at times, but after switching to the running track, she got out there as the seventh woman with vomiting. In 2015, after 12:26 p.m., she crossed the finish line as the 361st woman. She is trained by Matt Dixon .

As every year since 2012, she started five weeks later at Ironman Arizona , where she defended her previous year's victory in a new personal best as well as her ninth success in a triathlon under the trademark "Ironman". Meredith Kessler is a member of the Board of Directors of the Professional Triathlon Union, an association of professional triathletes founded in September 2015 .

Meredith Kessler is married and lives with her husband in San Francisco . Her son was born in 2017 and she took a break during this time. In April 2018, she finished sixth at the Ironman Texas .

In March 2020, the 41-year-old finished second at Ironman New Zealand .
