Friedrich Heinrich Roloff

Friedrich Heinrich Roloff (born May 19, 1830 in Badersleben , † December 22, 1885 in Berlin ) was a German veterinarian .

Life

Friedrich Heinrich Roloff was born on May 19, 1830 in Badersleben, the son of a farmer . At the Königl. He studied veterinary school in Berlin from 1847 to 1851. After that he was a practical veterinarian in his hometown and in Gröningen , from 1859 to 1862 he was a district veterinarian in Liebenwerda . In the following time he worked as a tutor and assistant at the Berlin Veterinary School and dealt with anatomy , histology and pathology . He also attended anatomical and pathological lectures at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

In 1865 Roloff left the veterinary school and became a lecturer at the agricultural institute at the University of Halle , and he also became a district veterinarian there . In the same year he was at the University of Göttingen for Doctor of Philosophy PhD . At the end of 1866, the University of Halle finally hired him as an associate professor . In 1873 he became the department veterinarian in Merseburg . A rinderpest broke out in 1870 and 1871, worked as an expert witness during the Roloff. He also made a name for himself as a professor of veterinary medicine, but left the university in 1876.

In that year Roloff moved to Berlin and from then on worked as a member of the government , since then he was a full member of the Imperial Health Department , member of the technical deputation for veterinary medicine and also acted as the department veterinarian in Potsdam . He had previously received appointments to other agricultural institutes, which he did not honor. From 1878 he also directed the veterinary school in Berlin. As the latter he had new laboratories built, founded another institute and hired qualified new teachers. With these deeds he had made a special contribution to the school.

Roloff remained head of the veterinary school until his death on December 22, 1885 in Berlin at the age of 55.

Act

Roloff was a dutiful teacher and scientist. Through his teaching he improved the theoretical as well as the practical training of young veterinarians. Objectivity and clarity were reflected in his lectures. He also made important contributions to forensic veterinary medicine. As a member of the Reich Health Office, he advised on the food law and the Reich law , which concerned means against animal diseases. He wrote works that dealt with the spread of the cattle epidemic and the Rinderpestgesetz . In these works he was clearly expressed and put forward convincing arguments that were ascribed to him as experience. Roloff also wrote small papers for the magazine for the entire animal medicine , for the archive for scientific and practical animal medicine and for the archive for pathological anatomy .
