The Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) is an international, non-profit advocacy group for professional triathletes founded in 2019 .

organization

The group of athletes was founded in summer 2019 and supported by entrepreneur Michael Moritz (former investor of Google, PayPal).

Almost three weeks before the 43rd edition of the Ironman Hawaii , the PTO announced in September 2019 that it would buy the Ironman rights from the Chinese Wanda Sports Group .

The PTO states that other sports organizations would distribute more than 50 percent of the proceeds to the athletes, and in the case of Ironman this is not even three percent. The athletes are based on the successes of other individual sports, such as B. tennis or golf and want more self-determination.

The former elite triathlete Sam Renouf is the CEO, Charles Adamo as the chairman and the British Rachel Joyce and the New Zealander Dylan McNeice are the PTO's athletes spokesmen. Paula Findlay , Alistair Brownlee , Lionel Sanders and Skye Moench have been on the Board of Directors since January 2020 .

Members

The PTO has around 100 professional athletes as members (as of January 2020), including Timothy O'Donnell , Mirinda Carfrae , Sarah Piampiano and Meredith Kessler .

run

As part of the Challenge Šamorín ( "The Championship" ) at the end of May 2020, the PTO will proclaim the first "Collins Cup" in triathlon in Slovakia : the athletes will receive prize money of two million US dollars, which will be split between the top 18 female and 18 male athletes.
