The Wanda Group and Dalian Wanda Group ( Chinese 萬達集團 / 万达集团 , Pinyin Wanda Jituan ) is a Chinese company, which in 1988 by Wang Jianlin in Dalian in the province of Liaoning was established. The company is listed on the stock exchange and operates in the fields of real estate, luxury hotels, entertainment, internet, finance, tourism and retail.

In 2016, goodwill totaled 796.2 billion yuan and sales of 255 billion yuan.

Commercial real estate

Wanda owns 125 plazas and 81 hotels with a total area of 21.57 million square meters. In addition, a further 70 plazas and 69 hotels were under construction in 2015. Wanda Commercial Properties (WCP) is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with a value of HKD 22 billion .

Culture, tourism, sport

The Wanda Cultural Industry Group claims to be China's largest cultural company. Annual revenues for 2013 were $ 4 billion. The firm includes a variety of entertainment companies, theme parks, travel companies, film production companies, and art investment firms.
Wanda is China's largest cinema chain with 1,657 screens in 187 cinemas. This business area also includes the global cinema chain AMC , the Australian cinema chain Hoyts , Sunseeker International and 20% of Atlético Madrid .

In 2015 Wanda bought the Swiss sports marketing company Infront Sports & Media and the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC: organizer of the Ironman competitions) for US $ 1.2 billion and US $ 650 million respectively . Infront and WTC have been combined under the umbrella of "Wanda Sports Holding" since the end of 2015. At the beginning of 2018, offers for an IPO in Hong Kong and America were obtained and these are now being evaluated.

In January 2016 Wanda acquired the majority in the US company Legendary Entertainment , the parent company of the film studio Legendary Pictures and the comic book publisher Legendary Comics, for 3.5 billion US dollars. The studio produced u. a. Jurassic World , Batman , Godzilla and Inception . In March 2016, Wanda took over Carmike Cinemas Inc. in the USA. With the two purchases, most of the movie theaters and around 8,400 movie screens in the US belong to Wanda, which represents 20% of the US market.

In May 2017, Wanda announced that it would invest $ 3.3 billion in EuropaCity, a mega-project near Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, by 2024. A theme park with cultural exhibitions, shopping malls, outdoor sporting events and restaurants is to be built there on over 80 hectares. It is the largest project for Wanda in Europe. Other planned activities outside of China include a project on the banks of the Thames in London and a large industrial park in India with an investment volume of US $ 10 billion.

Department stores

Wanda operates 99 department stores with a total area of 2.9 million square meters in many Chinese cities such as Beijing , Shanghai , Chengdu and Wuhan ; Wanda is considered China's largest department store chain.

In 2013 the Wanda Group bought the Edificio España in Madrid for 265 million euros. Since the building, and especially the facade, is a listed building, the Chinese owners' plans to equip the skyscraper with a hotel, apartments and a shopping center have been rejected by the government. The Edificio España is to be sold on October 15, 2016 for 272 million euros to the Spanish Grupo Baraka , owned by Trinitario Casanova from southern Spain .

At the end of 2015, the Wanda Group was looking for a tourism complex in Oropesa del Mar , Spain. For 75% of Marina d'Or's properties , 1.2 billion euros are said to have been offered.

Sponsorship

Wanda has been the main sponsor of the Chinese Super League , the top Chinese soccer division, since 2011 .

On March 18, 2016, Wanda signed a contract with FIFA to sponsor the next four World Cups until 2030. This deal makes Wanda the first Chinese main sponsor of FIFA.

On December 9, 2016, Wanda signed a contract with Atlético Madrid , whose stadium has since been called " Wanda Metropolitano " (until 2017 "Estadio de la Comunidad de Madrid"). The Wanda Group already owns 20% of the Spanish football club.
