organization

This event was initially organized by North American Sports from 2003 and has been held annually in June since 2003. For 2016, the event was moved from June to the end of August and the race was held on August 21, 2016 without the participation of professional athletes. In 2017, this Ironman was held again as an age group race.
No extension of this race has been announced for 2018.

Route

  • The swimming course lasted two laps in Coeur d'Alene Lake . In 2013, a rolling start was introduced at the Ironman Coeur d'Alene as the first WTC competition and has been maintained ever since.
The amateurs start with this format sporadically over a period of several minutes. The advantage is the lower density of participants on the bike course, which reduces violations of the drafting ban (driving in the slipstream of the person in front). The disadvantage is that the order in which the amateurs crossed the finish line did not allow conclusions to be drawn about their placement.
  • The bike went up in 2011 over two rounds along the Coeur d'Alene Lake and Hayden Lake .
Since 2012, the bike course with a cumulative altitude of 1755 meters has been a hilly turning point route over two laps, which first leads along the north shore of Coeur d'Alene Lake to the east and then past the start and finish area on US Highway 95 to the south.
  • Finally, the running route over the marathon distance also led eastwards for two laps on the north bank of Coeur d'Alene Lake .

Course records

The course record for women has been held by Canadian Heather Wurtele since 2013 with her winning time of 9:16:02 hours. The American Ben Hoffman has also held the men's course record with 8:17:31 hours since 2013.
As the most successful professional athletes, Heather Wurtele, Viktor Zyemtsev and Andy Potts have each won three times.
