Matt Russell (born March 19, 1983 in Lisbon as Matthew John Russell ) is a duathlete and triathlete from the United States and Ironman winner (2012, 2019). He is included in the best list of American triathletes on the Ironman distance .

Career

Matt Russell graduated from the University of New Hampshire . During his student days he was active in running and later Matthew switched to triathlon via the duathlon in 2010.

Professional triathlete since 2011

Matt Russell started as a professional athlete in 2011 and has lived in Scottsdale with his wife and son since late 2011 . In August 2012 he won his first Ironman victory in Canada .

Ironman Hawaii 2017

In 2017, the then 34-year-old qualified for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii for the sixth time in a row. During the race in October he was involved in an accident with a car on the bike course and was seriously injured.

At the Ironman Hawaii 2018, he finished sixth.

In July 2019, he won his second Ironman victory at Ironman USA in Lake Placid.
