Theuerwang Castle, today Gasthaus Schauflinger

The former Theuerwang Castle , today Gasthaus Schauflinger, is located in the district of the same name in the municipality of Vorchdorf in the Gmunden district in Upper Austria . (Theuerwang 13).

history

Theuerwang is mentioned for the first time in a sales letter to Wilhering Monastery in 1279. Its owner at the time (without a first name) was a Tewrwanger . His sons Otaker and Christianus are named as witnesses in various letters around 1300. In 1336 Heinrich von Alharting sold the "Hof zu Twerwang" to the Kremsmünster Abbey on behalf of the Otaker's children . The Theuerwangers also appear as Eggenbergers and can be found in the service of the city of Steyr and the Schaunberger . Theuerwang then passed to Ulrich von Capellen , from whom Heinrich der Theurwanger bought it again on October 18, 1346. In 1354 Johann Theuerwanger and 1372 Weimar Teuerwanger's wife Chunigunde are mentioned here. The following Theuerwanger are also mentioned: Dietrich I. around 1363, his son was Dietrich II. A Theuerwanger rests in the St. Stephen's cemetery in Vienna; on his epitaph it says: "Here lies the heir Caspar Theuerwang after the birth of Christ." His coat of arms has been preserved, but the year is illegible. His son's name was Wolfgang II, who on March 10, 1471 sealed a sales letter from Wolfgang Rotelmayr. In 1492 a Hans Theuerwang from Au Castle near Roitham and in 1511 a Stephan Teuerwanger are named. After 1525 the Theuerwangers disappeared from the annals of history. Theuerwang went over to the Turnperger; of which are named: Conrad Tunperger, Lenhard Tunberger (1520), Christoph Tunberger (1544), Caintz Tunperger (1568). A wolf Weixelpaumer follows in 1632. No other owners or fiefs are known.

Theuerwang was a fiefdom of Kremsmünster Monastery in 1463 . After the Theuerwanger died out, the monastery court was established here in 1463. The castle burned down around 1880.

Theuerwang Castle today

Today Theuerwang is a stately farm and at the same time an inn in the village of the same name. The residential wing of the courtyard was built over the eastern flank of the former moated castle. The castle walls and a formerly cranked round tower are still in the current building. The well renovated house also has pointed vaults, an old tiled stove and other equipment details from the earlier castle. On the first floor, double window bars with strong shutters (loopholes) are partially preserved. Other windows have wrought iron window baskets.

Next to the courtyard is the Zehentstadel of the former administrative court . In the cellar of this barn there are vaults that go back to the year 993 AD. The basement is paved with river stones. The large barrel vault has a height of approx. 5 m.

The Gasthaus Schauflinger, owned by the Haslinger family, has been in operation in the former castle since 1909. The rooms of the inn are furnished with numerous pieces of rustic furniture and pictures of previous owners.
