Ammonium Perchlorate Composite Propellant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ammonium Perchlorate Composite Propellant (APCP; German: Ammoniumperchlorat-Verbundtreibstoff ) is a rocket propellant for solid rocket engines .

It contains ammonium perchlorate as an oxidizer and typically aluminum powder and binder. The fuel is not produced in powder form, such as black powder, but industrially cast in a standardized form.

use

Ammonium perchlorate composite fuel is commonly used in the aerospace industry for propulsion applications. It is used in particular when simplicity and reliability are in the foreground and a specific pulse of 180 to 260 seconds is sufficient. Because of these features APCP is to regularly find applications in booster such as the space shuttle - solid rocket , aircraft ejection seats and special space applications such as braking rockets Mars Exploration Rover .

In addition, APCP is regularly used in high-power missiles or amateur missiles .
