Maximilian Longrée (born June 19, 1981 in Essen ) is a former German triathlete and Ironman winner (2008) who is now active as a coach.

Career

His older brother Sebastian (* 1975) was already active as a triathlete and Maximilian Longrée started his first triathlon in 1994 at the age of 13.

In 2003 he finished third at the Triathlon World Championship on the long distance in the 20-24 age group.

In October 2006 he finished 20th as an amateur at the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championships). Since 2007 he has been active as a professional athlete. The strong running athlete won the Ironman Louisville in August 2008 on the long distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

In November 2009 he was seriously injured in a bicycle accident caused by a car in Arizona; he severed his shin muscle and broke several bones.

His comeback took place in July 2010 at Ironman Austria . In 2010, Maximilian Longrée successfully competed six times in the Ironman distance within five months.

Today Maximilian Longrée is active as a sports coach.
