Westphalia triathlon
The Westphalia Triathlon has been an annual triathlon event since 2002 . Until 2016, the race was located in Dortmund's Fredenbaumpark and on the Dortmund-Ems Canal . On July 2, 2017, the event took place for the first time at Lake Phoenix . The two venues are to be used annually in the future.
organization
The organizer is the Dortmund triathlon club Tri-Geckos Dortmund , and Udo Antoniewicz, Gecko's managing director, has been the organizer from the start. Dortmund's Lord Mayor Ullrich Sierau has been the patron for several years .
In addition to sprint (750 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running) and Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running), school races (students C / D: 6–9 years as a duathlon) and a relay competition (750 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running) is offered. Swimming takes place in the Dortmund-Ems Canal or in the Phönixsee. From the Fredenbaumpark the cycle route leads on a 10 km loop through the north of Dortmund. A 7 km long circuit is used at the Phönixsee.
In 2008 and 2009 the Westphalia Triathlon was part of the Westfalen Triple event series. In addition to the triathlon, this included the Westphalia Run and the Westphalia Duathlon. Due to the high organizational effort, the series was discontinued.
The competition over the Olympic distance also forms the Dortmund city triathlon championship. Furthermore, several league competitions, twice the “German Championship for People with Disabilities” and in 2010 the Ruhrnachrichten “Triathlon Duel” have been held here in recent years.
With six wins, the triathlon professional Andreas Niederig is the most frequent winner.
