Verena Walter (born May 11, 1981 in Iserlohn ) is a German triathlete and German champion in the 50 km run (2005).
Career
Verena Walter started in her youth for the athletics department of TV Deilinghofen and LG Menden in the local Sauerland .
After a long sporting break between the ages of 15 and 18, the return to sport came with a slow start with endurance running: first at the Iserlohn running club and later, more competitively, at the Menden Marathon Club . During this purely run-oriented time, she took part in the 100 km run in Biel, Switzerland in 2003, which she was the first to finish in her age group.
German champion 50 km run 2005
In 2005 she became German champion at the 50 km run of the DUV in Marburg .
Verena Walter has been a triathlete since 2004 and has been a professional triathlete since 2014. The more than 20 long distances completed (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running) also include five participations (2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016) in the Ironman Hawaii (Ironman World Championship).
Since 2012 she has been led by Dr. Florian Hanakam , the head of the Center for Diagnostics and Intervention (ZeDi) at the Ruhr University Bochum , trained. In August 2012 she was second in Germany's northernmost long-distance triathlon, the Ostseeman in Glücksburg. In August 2013 in Wiesbaden she became vice-European champion in the age group 30-34 on the triathlon middle distance. In June 2014 she was eleventh at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt am Main.
Ironman 70.3 winner (middle distance) 2016
In June 2016 she won the Bonn Triathlon after finishing second here in the previous year after a tight decision in the finish sprint. At the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt am Main, she finished fifth in July.
On the basis of the points achieved in various Ironman races in the "Kona Points Ranking" since August 2015, Verena Walter was one of the 28 best professional long-distance triathletes in the Ironman racing series as of July 24, 2016 (in addition to the so-called "Automatic Qualifier": five winners of the continental championships and the winners of the last five years) and was thus invited to the “Ironman World Championship” on October 8, 2016 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. This was the fifth time she was nominated for a starting place - the first time as a professional athlete - and in October she finished 27th as the third-best German professional athlete.
Challenge winner (long distance) 2017
At the end of April 2017, Verena Walter won her first long distance win at the Challenge Taiwan in Taitung . In 2016, 2017 and again in 2018 she won the Bonn Triathlon .
Verena Walter also works as a media designer and lives in Iserlohn .
