The Ironman Regensburg was a triathlon - sporting event over the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) held from 2010 to 2012 in Regensburg in the Upper Palatinate region in Eastern Bavaria .

organization

The Ironman Regensburg was part of the Ironman World Series of the World Triathlon Corporation , a subsidiary of Providence Equity Partners at the time . The participants had the opportunity to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii : There were 50 qualification places available - 8 for professionals and 42 for amateurs.

This competition was held for the first time on August 1, 2010 and more than 1800 athletes started here in this triathlon competition on the long distance. At the third edition in 2012, however, the field of participants had been reduced to 1322 athletes.

In addition to the Ironman Germany in Frankfurt am Main , which is also advertised as the Ironman European Championship and the Ironman 70.3 Germany (middle distance: 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running), this was the third triathlon organized by this organizer in Germany.

In 2013 there was no Ironman in Regensburg because the participants could not agree on a common date. A new edition of the race was announced for August 17, 2014 - for financial reasons, however, the organizer finally canceled the re-run.

On the second weekend in August 2016, the city of Regensburg, in cooperation with the Purendure Event GmbH of Sonja Tajsich the first Challenge Regensburg with partially similar route. The contract period is five years.

Route

The race started with the swimming distance in Guggenberger See near Neutraubling and the following bike course led over a 2-lap course through the district of Regensburg. The goal after a round course to be run four times for the marathon distance was in the old town of Regensburg.
