From 2011 to 2013, the organizer Just Racing UK hosted the Henley-on-Thames Challenge . In 2014 the event moved and ran under the name Challenge Weymouth as part of the worldwide Challenge series in 2014 and 2015 . After the expiry of the five-year license agreement between the organizer Just Racing UK and Challenge Family GmbH in Amberg, Just Racing UK initially announced that it would continue the event under the name "TriWeymouth" in the future.

In October 2015, the World Triathlon Corporation, as the owner of the rights to the Ironman brand, announced that it will be organizing the event under the name Ironman Weymouth in the future . However, Alan Rose , founder and previous managing director of Just Racing UK , remained race director . The event was to receive 30 qualifying spots for amateurs for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.

The competition over half the Ironman distance, which was held on the same day in 2015, was continued in 2016 on the same day as Ironman Weymouth under the name Ironman 70.3 Weymouth .

No further event was announced for 2017 and the race was canceled.
