The Ironman Mar del Plata is a first time in 2017 in Argentina in the southeast of the province of Buenos Aires in Mar del Plata on the Ironman as distance (km 3.86 swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) discharged Triathlon - sporting event .

The Ironman Mar del Plata is part of the Ironman world series of the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a subsidiary of the Chinese Wanda Group .
With the "Half-ISS-Triathlon" (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) and the "Triathlon de Mar del Plata" (since 1998) two of the most famous races in South America have already been held here. The race first took place on December 3, 2017.
Amateurs have the opportunity to qualify for a starting place at the Ironman Hawaii , for which 75 qualification places are available. Professional triathletes competing for the $ 80,000 prize money in Mar del Plata can qualify for the $ 650,000 competition in Hawaii via the Kona Pro Ranking System (KPR).
In Mar del Plata, the winner and the winner will each receive 2000 points, further places receive a correspondingly reduced number of points. For comparison: the winner in Hawaii receives 8,000 points, the winners in Frankfurt , Texas , Florianópolis , Cairns and Port Elizabeth each receive 4,000, and in the other Ironman races either 1,000 or 2,000 points.
On December 2, 2018, the South American Championships were held as part of the race . The swim had to be shortened to 1.9 km due to the cold temperatures and 75 starting places for the Ironman Hawaii were allocated in the various classes.
The last race here was at the third edition on December 1st, 2019. The swimming distance had to be shortened by 800 meters.
