József Major
József Major (born January 21, 1979 in Cegléd ) is a Hungarian duathlete , triathlete and Ironman winner (2008).
Career
As a teenager, József Major started in the duathlon for the Hungarian national team and since 1998 he has competed in the triathlon.
Hungarian long-distance triathlon champion 2005–2008
From 2005 to 2008, József Major was Hungarian champion in the long distance triathlon four times in a row. In 2006 he won the Elbaman Triathlon on the long distance in Italy .
In 2008 he won the Ironman Arizona (3.86 km swim, 180.2 km bike and 42.195 km run). He has been trained by Sergio Borges since 2009. József Major lived in the United States from 2012 to 2016.
In July 2016, the 37-year-old became vice national champion on the long distance. In November he finished seventh at Ironman Mexico with a personal best Ironman time .
In 2016 and again in 2017 he was runner- up behind Márton Flander in the long-distance triathlon.
In August 2019, the 40-year-old was the sixth Hungarian champion of the long-distance triathlon in Nagyatád .
