Hungarian Triathlon Union ( Hungarian Magyar Triatlon Szövetség ) is the Hungarian triathlon association.

After the modern triathlon was reinvented in the USA in the mid-1970s, the sport found its way to Europe in the early 1980s. In 1981 the first official competitions on the continent took place in the Netherlands . In 1984 the European Triathlon Union (ETU) was founded.

The Hungarian Triathlon Union was founded in Budapest in 1989 and is a member of the European triathlon umbrella organization ETU and the international triathlon association International Triathlon Union (ITU).
In 2014, Dr. Béla Bátorfi elected President of the Hungarian Triathlon Federation in Hungary. Known as Viktor Orbán's dentist , he succeeded former President Marcell Biró in 2014 and was re-elected in 2016.

Hungarian championships

The Hungarian Triathlon Union is responsible for holding national championships in Hungary:

  • Triathlon : sprint, short, medium and long distance
  • Duathlon : sprint and short distance

In triathlon races over the sprint distance are 750 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running.
