Balatonboglár [ ˈbɒlɒtonboɡlaːr ] (German historical: Sankt Egidi ) is a town between Balatonlelle and Fonyód on the south-east bank of Lake Balaton in Hungary . It is located in Somogy County and has about 6,000 inhabitants.
Balatonboglár has a small port and a train station. The city is geared towards tourism and lies on the flat shore of the lake. In addition to a meadow beach with beach volleyball fields and a mini golf course with twelve holes, there is also a pedal boat rental.
During the Second World War there was a Polish university and a lyceum in Balatonboglár - unique in Europe . A number of French évadés , prisoners of war who had fled from German camps, lived in camps around Balatonboglár at this time .

The region around Lake Balaton has been populated for around 6000 years. Balatonboglár was first mentioned in a document in 1211. Since the end of the 19th century, the place has developed into one of the largest holiday centers on Lake Balaton, and so the first bathing club was founded in Balatonboglár in 1904. In 1912 the city was chosen as a spa . Around this time the new port was built, which is now one of the largest sailing boat harbors on Lake Balaton.
In 1978 Boglár merged with Lelle to Boglárlelle, but separated again in 1991.
The Catholic Church, built in 1932, forms the center of the city. The oldest preserved architectural monument is the classicist mansion (Szabadsag utca 14) built in 1835, today it forms the center of the state winery.
Since 1987 the place has been the international city of wine and grapes. BB - Balatonboglári Borgazdasagi Rt. Is the largest wine-growing company in the South Balaton region.

Festivals
In Balatonboglár there are two big festivals every summer. In the Balaton-átúszás , the Balaton crossing, the participants swim 5.2 km from Revfülöp on the north bank of Lake Balaton towards Boglár. The Boglári Szüret , the Boglár grape harvest, is a wine festival at which wines from the entire Balaton region are represented. It takes place annually around August 20th. The last evening will end with fireworks and a laser show.
