Coronado is a city in San Diego County in the US state of California . It has 24,100 inhabitants (as of 2000). The urban area has a size of 84.6 km². It is bounded to the west by the Pacific Ocean and to the east by San Diego Bay .
Coronado is located on a peninsula on the 1969 opened Coronado Bridge with the California State Route 75 can be reached.
Attractions
The Hotel del Coronado ⊙ , built in 1888, is remarkable . It was not only a variety of celebrities as accommodation, but also as a film set for the shot in 1958 film Some Like It Hot ( English Some like it hot ) with Marilyn Monroe , Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in the lead roles.

The central part of the island is home to the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado , which is home to one of the two headquarters of the United States Navy SEALs , which is why it is not open to the public. From a bird's eye view, the quarter has the shape of a swastika .
At the northern end of the peninsula is Naval Air Station North Island , which is the home port of the two aircraft carriers USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan .
