The race was held on August 11, 2012 and the Ironman US Championships were determined in this race. 4000 points and 75 starting places for a qualification for Ironman Hawaii on October 13, 2012 were awarded here.
Around 2500 triathletes, including 59 professional athletes (38 men and 21 women), were expected at the start of the first event.
At the first event here, the swimming discipline was almost canceled in 2012, as the Hudson River was heavily contaminated by polluted sewage due to a defective sewer pipe. At the last moment, the authorities gave the all-clear and the swimming could take place.
No continuation of the race was announced for 2013.
Route
The swimming distance was in the Hudson River and the exit was a little north of the George Washington Bridge . The bike course was two laps and the marathon distance was also two courses to the left and right of the Hudson River.
The course record was set by Jordan Rapp with a winning time of 8:11:18 hours and Mary Beth Ellis for women with 9:02:48 hours.
